Research shows that self-regulated learning is a key competence for academic and professional success. It enables learners to take responsibility for their learning, work independently, and engage in lifelong learning.

Teachers play a central role in developing this competence. They teach learning strategies, guide learning processes, and create supportive learning environments. To do this effectively, they need a solid understanding of self-regulated learning, constructive beliefs about its relevance – and confidence in their own ability to make a difference.

The SeLFI team supports teachers in developing these professional competencies through a series of progressive modules – and equips them with proven strategies and materials they can apply directly in the classroom.

Digital training modules

The SeLFI professional development program helps teachers understand what self-regulation is and how to foster it systematically – both in their students and in themselves. The program is grounded in the latest scientific research and is continuously developed as part of our ongoing research projects.

Its content is structured into modular, digital learning units that are practical, flexible, and evidence-based. New modules are being created step by step and made freely available on this website. As a result, the SeLFI program is constantly growing – and always up to date.

Modul 1
Basics

Module 1 provides an introduction to the topic of self-regulation in learning and describes important aspects and their significance for learning success.

Modul 2
Self-regulation strategies

Module 2 describes SRL strategies that can be used specifically to support learning. Taken together, these strategies form a comprehensive repertoire of strategies for various facets of SRL.

Modul 3
Diagnostics

The diagnosis of self-regulation skills is the focus of Module 3. This addresses both the assessment of the current situation and how to build on it.

Modul 4
Promotion of self-regulation

Module 4 describes various approaches to promoting self-regulation in the school context.

Modul 5
Special
contexts

Module 5 deals with the importance and implementation of SRL in communities and in the face of particular challenges. Special attention is paid to how SRL can succeed in heterogeneous classes.

Modul 6
The role of teachers and schools

Module 6 focuses on the role of the learning environment. It deals with the role of the school, but also with the role of the teacher when students take on more and more responsibility for their own learning.
